Electron Impact Mass Spectrometry of 2-(2-Pyridyl)-2,3-dihydroxy-5-phenyl-4-pentene
Clerici, Angelo,Traldi, Pietro
, p. 114 - 117 (1983)
The mass spectrometric behaviour of 2-(2-pyridyl)-2,3-dihydroxy-5-phenyl-4-pentene has been studied with the aid of B/E, B2/E linked scans, exact mass measurements, collisionally activated dissociation mass analysed ion kinetic energy spectra, and labelling experiments. The primary loss of water is proved to involve both hydroxylic hydrogens, thus suggesting the formation of an epoxidic radical ion and the presence of extensive skeletal rearrangements.
A Novel Reaction Type Promoted by Aqueous Titanium Trichloride. Synthesis of Allylic Pinacols
Clerici, Angelo,Porta, Ombretta
, p. 1690 - 1694 (2007/10/02)
Electron-withdrawing substituted carbonyl compounds which are allowed to react with 2 equiv of aqueous titanium trichloride selectively add to the carbonyl carbon atom of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes.Highly functionalized allylic pinacols are obtained in good yields under very simple experimental conditions. The fundamental role played by the titanium(III) ion is discussed.
