Anodic monofluorination at the position α to the oxygen atom of chroman-4-one derivatives was successfully carried out: this is the first selective electrochemical fluorination of fused-type, oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds.

Anodic monoflourination at the position α to the oxygen atom of the (E)-3-benylidene-2,3-dihydrochroman-4-one derivatives was successfully carried out to provide the corresponding 2-flourochromanones selectively. This is the first regioselective electrochemical flourination of fused-type, oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds. Anodic flourination of a chromone derivative also gave a similar flourinated chromanone stereoselectively.
