Used as a Solvent:
Due to its chemical properties, 1,1,2,2,4-pentachlorobutane is utilized as a solvent in certain industrial processes. Its ability to dissolve a wide range of substances makes it suitable for specific applications where a solvent with particular characteristics is required.
However, it is important to note that 1,1,2,2,4-pentachlorobutane has been identified as a potential environmental pollutant and has been found as a contaminant in some industrial waste streams. Its toxicological properties, while not well studied, suggest that exposure to high levels of 1,1,2,2,4-pentachlorobutane can pose risks to both human health and the environment. As a result, its use and disposal must be carefully managed to minimize any adverse effects.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 34867-74-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 3,4,8,6 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 34867-74:
(7*3)+(6*4)+(5*8)+(4*6)+(3*7)+(2*7)+(1*4)=148
148 % 10 = 8
So 34867-74-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

ONE-POT SYNTHESIS OF 2,2,4-TRICHLOROBUTANAL FROM TETRAHYDROFURAN
Buyck, Laurent De,Menke, Niclas,Louagie, Jan
, p. 187 - 189 (2007/10/02)
Tetrahydrofuran was converted to 2,2,4-trichlorobutanal (1) in 60-73percent overall yield by isomerisation of intermediate 2,3,3-trichlorotetrahydrofuran (2) in the presence of 4-6percent (w:w) of aluminium trichloride at 100-140 deg C for 40-60 min.Zinc chloride and titanium tetrachloride were less effective as catalysts, while hydrogen chloride and paratoluenesulfonic acid were ineffective.
