2-Ethylphenanthrene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) characterized by a fused benzene ring and a seven-membered ring. It is recognized as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of specialty chemicals and dyes, while also being acknowledged as an environmental pollutant due to its presence in fossil fuels and its release from incomplete combustion processes. 2-Ethylphenanthrene's exposure has been linked to adverse health effects, such as carcinogenic and mutagenic properties, necessitating strict regulation to mitigate potential risks to human and environmental health.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3674-74-6 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,6,7 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3674-74:
(6*3)+(5*6)+(4*7)+(3*4)+(2*7)+(1*4)=106
106 % 10 = 6
So 3674-74-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

On the Acetylation of Phenanthrene and 9-Chlorphenanthrene

Fernandez, Franco,Gomez, Generosa,Lopez, Carmen,Santos, Ana

, p. 15 - 21 (2007/10/02)

Friedel-Crafts acetylation of phenanthrene (1a) in sym-tetrachlorethane yields mixtures of 2-,3- and 9-acetylphenanthrenes (2a,3a,4).The distribution of isomers is found to depend strongly upon the method of mixing the reagents.Acetylation of 9-chlorophenanthrene (1b), perfomed by a variety of methods and solvents, led mainly to 3-acetyl-9-chlorophenanthrene (3b) (>/=85percent).Previously unreported 2-acetyl-9-chlorophenanthrene (2b) was found to form up to a maximum 11percent in nitrobenzene.
