1-benzylidenetetralin-2-one (2), obtained by the condensation of 5b-tetralone (1) with benzaldehyde, on reaction on reaction with thiourea in alkaline medium gives 1-phenyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydrobenzoquinazoline-3-4H-thione (3).The thione 3 on condensation with chloroacetic acid and β-chloropropionic acid furnishes 11H-11-phenyl-5,6-dihydrothiazolobenzoquinazolin-1(2H)-one (4) and 3H,12H-12-phenyl-6,7-dihydrothiazinobenzoquinazolin-1(2H)-one (5).Arylidenethiazolidinones (6) have been prepared by the condensation of thiazolidinone (4) with aromatic aldehydes.Compounds 4 and 5 represent two novel and hitherto unknown heterocyclic systems.
