Trimethyl-propoxytin, also known as trimethyltin (TMT), is an organotin compound with the chemical formula (CH3)3Sn-O-CH2-CH3. It is a colorless, oily liquid that is soluble in organic solvents and has a low melting point. TMT is primarily used as a catalyst in the production of polyurethane foams and as a fungicide in agriculture. It is also employed in the synthesis of various organotin compounds. However, due to its neurotoxic effects, particularly on the central nervous system, its use has been restricted or banned in several countries. Trimethyl-propoxytin can cause severe neurological damage, including memory loss, seizures, and even death, when ingested or inhaled in high concentrations.
