2-Chloroethyl ethanesulfonate (CEES) is an organosulfur compound with the chemical formula C4H9ClO3S. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. CEES is primarily used as an alkylating agent in chemical reactions, particularly in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. It is known for its ability to react with nucleophilic centers, such as amines and thiols, to form stable adducts. Due to its reactivity, CEES is considered a hazardous substance and requires careful handling. It is also used in the preparation of mustard gas analogs, which are potent vesicant agents. The compound's properties and applications make it a significant player in the field of organic chemistry, though its use is strictly regulated due to its potential health and environmental risks.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 4239-12-7 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 4,2,3 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 4239-12:
(6*4)+(5*2)+(4*3)+(3*9)+(2*1)+(1*2)=77
77 % 10 = 7
So 4239-12-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

2-Haloethylating Agents for Cancer Chemoterapy. 2-Haloethyl Sulfonates

Shealy, Y. Fulmer,Krauth, Charles A.,Struck, Robert F.,Montgomery, John A.

, p. 1168 - 1173 (2007/10/02)

Because certain (2-chloroethyl)triazenes and (2-haloethyl)nitrosoureas have high antineoplastic activity, 2-chloroethyl and 2-fluoroethyl sulfonates were prepared to try to develop additional types of 2-haloethylating agents. In this initial study, it was demonstrated that antineoplastic activity much superior to that of the prototype, 2-chloroethyl methanesulfonate, could be found among 2-chloroethyl sulfonates.Among a variety of 2-chloroethyl alkane- and arenesulfonates, several substituted methanesulfonates displayed significant activity agains P388 leukemia in mice; the chloromethanesulfonat e showed high activity (T/C = 218percent).None of the arenesulfonates were active in this test.
