Evidence for multiple alkali metal cation complexation in membrane-spanning ion transporters
Shabany,Murray,Gloeckner,Grayson,Gross,Gokel
, p. 2375 - 2376 (2000)
The polynitrogen-containing cation transporters 1-4 are shown by electrospray mass spectrometry to form multicationic species. In the absence of Na+, protonated species dominate but increasing the sodium concentration leads to all binding sites
The effect of twin-tailed sidearms on sodium cation transport in synthetic hydraphile cation channels
Shabany, Hossein,Pajewski, Robert,Abel, Ernesto,Mukhopadhyay, Anindita,Gokel, George W.
, p. 1393 - 1400 (2007/10/03)
The preparation of novel tris(macrocycle)s that transport Na+ through phospholipid bilayers is reported. All of the reported structures have the following structural elements: sidechain-macrocycle-spacer-macro-cycle-spacer-macrocycle-sidechain.
Enhancement of cation transport in synthetic hydraphile channels having covalently-linked headgroups
Shabany,Gokel
, p. 2373 - 2374 (2007/10/03)
A novel, pentamacrocyclic host molecule has been prepared in which four symmetry-equivalent diazacrown ethers lead to a dramatic enhancement in Na+ transport, across a phospholipid bilayer, relative to open-chained analogs lacking the fourth crown.
