Siegel, U.,Mues, R.,Doenig, R.,Eicher, Th.,Blechschmidt, M.,Becker, H.
, p. 1671 - 1678 (1992)
From gametophytic tissues of the naturally grown foliose liverworts Plagiochila longispina and Calypogeia azurea and from in vitro cultures of C. azurea, 10 azulenes have been isolated, of which eight proved to be new natural products.Their structures were elucidated by means of spectroscopic methods and by independent synthesis. Key Word Index - Plagiochila longispina; Calypogeia azurea; Jungermanniales; Hepaticae; azulenes; synthesis.
A quadruply azulene-fused porphyrin with intense near-IR absorption and a large two-photon absorption cross section

(Chemical Equation Presented) Extending conjugation: Azulene-fused porphyrins (see example) are synthesized through the oxidation of meso-(4-azulenyl)porphyrins with FeCl3. The azulene-fused strategy allowed highly π-conjugated porphyrinic elec
