It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that is soluble in organic solvents and has a molecular weight of 287.41 g/mol. TMBA is primarily used as a curing agent for epoxy resins, enhancing their mechanical properties, thermal stability, and chemical resistance. It is also employed as a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and as a crosslinking agent in the production of polyurethane foams. Due to its amine functionality, TMBA can react with epoxy groups, leading to the formation of strong, three-dimensional networks in the cured material.
