The electrode mechanism of 4-phenylazo-3-amino-2-pyrazolin-5-one has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry, convolution and deconvolution potential sweep voltammetry in 0.1 mol dm-3 TEAP/DMF solutions at HDME.The depolarizer undergoes two two-electrons irreversible diffusion-controlled waves regardless of the sweep rate. The first wave was attributed to the cleavage of the single bond of -NH-N=C group, yielding aniline and 4-iminopyrazolone.The latter undergoes further reduction at more negative potentials to 4-amino-pyrazolone showing the second wave.
