General Description

(2R,4S,5R)-5-Ethyl-2-quinuclidinylmethylamine, also known as ethylquinuclidine, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C10H21N. It is a chiral compound with three stereocenters, and is commonly used as a building block in organic synthesis. Ethylquinuclidine can act as a ligand in catalytic processes or as a precursor for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other fine chemicals. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature, and has a strong, ammonia-like odor. Four new members of the family of 1,2-diamines of quincorine and quincoridine have been synthesized, being hydrogenated and didehydrogenated at the C10-C11 fragment. Additional investigations concerning the chemical properties of the molecules point to a significant impact of the remote C5 substituent on the basicity of the bridgehead nitrogen.
