A sodium salt of benzene sulphonic acid on treatment with different type of amido alcohols give m-arylalkylamidobenzene sulphonic acids 1-5, which react with benzoin in the presence of PPA to afford cyclised product 3,4-diphenyl-7-arylalkylamidobenzothiol-1,1-dioxides 6-10. Treatment of 6-10 with aromatic amines result in 3,4-diphenyl-7-arylalkylamido-aryl-1,2-benzothiazine-1,1-dioxides 11-25. The antidiabetic and antiviral activities of 6-25 have been reported.
