Benzenemethanol, 4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2,6-dimethyl-, also known as 2,6-dimethyl-4-tert-butylbenzyl alcohol or 4-tert-butyl-2,6-dimethylbenzyl alcohol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C??H??O. It is a colorless liquid with a molecular weight of 174.27 g/mol. Benzenemethanol, 4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2,6-dimethyl- is characterized by a benzene ring with a hydroxyl group (-OH) attached to the 4-position, and two methyl groups (-CH?) at the 2 and 6 positions, as well as a tert-butyl group (1,1-dimethylethyl) at the 4-position. It is used as a fragrance ingredient and a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. The compound is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents, and it has a melting point of 34-36°C and a boiling point of 250-252°C.
