Regioselective, hydrogen-acceptor-free C-H bond silylation of anisoles or alkoxy-substituted benzenes with hydrosilanes was achieved by use of a half-sandwich scandium catalyst. The reaction proceeds through ortho-C-H activation of an anisole compound by a scandium hydride species followed by the silylation of the resulting scandium 2-anisyl species with a hydrosilane (see scheme).
