The reduction of 3-methyl/phenyl-5-methyl/phenyl-4-phenylazo-(2H)-1,2,6-thiadiazine 1,1-dioxides takes place in a single two-electron transfer, giving a diffusion-controlled irreversible wave in B.R. buffer at d.m.e. corresponding to the reduction of azo group.A plausible mechanism has been suggested on the basis of number of protons involved in the rate-determining step and number of electrons involved in the reduction. The effect of substituents has been determined quantitatively by the application of Hammett equation.
