8-(1,2-Dimethylheptyl)- and 8-[5-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-pentyl]-10-hydroxy- 5,5-dimethyl-5H-[1]benzopyrano[4,3-c]pyridines (2a and 2b), their phenolic ester and ether derivatives, and their N-oxides were synthesized and evaluated in various CNS pharmacological tests in animals. 2a was found to be the most potent compound.
