Isotubulosine is a complex alkaloid found in Alangium lamarckii Thw. It forms colorless crystals when dissolved in ethanol and exhibits a specific rotation of [α]25D 84° (c 1.0, pyridine). The ultraviolet spectrum of Isotubulosine has been fully determined, with a single broad absorption maximum at 279 mJl in methanol. Isotubulosine also shows a small hypsochromic shift to 277 mJl in 0.1 N/HCl and two absorption maxima at 279 and 319 mμ in 0.1 N/NaOH. Isotubulosine contains two methoxyl groups, two imino groups, and one hydroxyl group, which can be converted to the O-methyl ether with a melting point of 163°C and a specific rotation of [α]20D 18.8° (MeOH). The structure of Isotubulosine has been confirmed through synthesis.
