Silver(I) 3,5-dinitrobenzoate (DNB) reacts with 2-methylimidazole (MeIm), producing a linearly coordinated [Ag(MeIm)2]+ cation that is further assembled with 3,5-dinitrobenzoate anion via N-H···O hydrogen bonding to give the cyclic aggregate {([Ag(MeIm)2](DNB)})2 1; whereas with 2-aminopyrimidine (APym) it affords the coordination polymer [Ag(Apym)(DNB)]∞ 2, which is assembled into a two-dimensional network sustained by weak C-H···O hydrogen bonds.
