Propanal, 2-methyl-, oxime, (E)-, also known as 2-methylpropanal oxime or isobutyraldehyde oxime, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H9NO. It is a derivative of 2-methylpropanal, an aldehyde, and is formed by the addition of hydroxylamine (NH2OH) to the carbonyl group, resulting in the formation of an oxime. Propanal, 2-methyl-, oxime, (E)- is characterized by its (E)-configuration, which refers to the geometric isomerism around the double bond formed between the nitrogen and the carbon of the carbonyl group. The (E)-isomer has the hydroxyl group and the methyl group on opposite sides of the double bond. Propanal, 2-methyl-, oxime, (E)- is an important intermediate in the synthesis of various chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and it is also used in the detection of aldehydes in analytical chemistry.
