Side-chain liquid-crystalline polymer tetrazoles: Synthesis and characterization
Tariq, Muhammad,Hameed, Shahid,Magnago, Rachel F.,Bechtold, Ivan H.,Merlo, Aloir A.
, p. 1275 - 1282 (2014/08/05)
The synthesis and phase behavior of three new side-chain liquid crystal polymers with short and long flexible alkyl spacers are described. These new materials show smectic C (SmC) mesophase. X-ray analysis for two samples has revealed that SmC mesophase displays partial interdigitation for the polymer with short flexible spacer, while for long flexible spacer polymer no interdigitation was observed. ?2014 Sociedade Brasileira de Qui?mica.
Visible light induced bending behavior of crosslinked liquid crystal polymers containing azotolane with a longer spacer
Zhao, Jianqiang,Yu, Yanlei
, p. 134 - 141 (2015/10/29)
One azotolane-containing acrylate monomer with a longer spacer and a non-azotolane crosslinker were synthesized. Crosslinked liquid crystal polymer (CLCP) films were obtained by thermal polymerization of the mixture of the monomer and the crosslinker with a molar ratio of 2:8. Thermodynamic and mesomorphic properties of the monomer, the crosslinker and the CLCP films were characterized by DSC and POM. The CLCP films showed a low glass transition temperature which ensured them to bend at room temperature upon visible light irradiation. Besides, the films have a faster bending speed compared with the previously-reported azotolane-containing CLCP films with a shorter spacer.

SYNTHESIS AND THERMAL PROPERTIES OF SIDE CHAIN TYPE LIQUID CRYSTALLINE POLYMERS WITH CHIRAL UNIT IN THE FLEXIBLE MOIETY
Koide, Naoyuki,Uehara, Keiichi,Iimura, Kazuyoshi
, p. 151 - 162 (2007/10/02)
This paper is concerned with the synthesis and thermal properties for five families of side-chain type liquid crystalline polymers. All these side-chain type polymers showed an enantiotropic mesomorphic nature.A sharp reflexion was observed in the small angle region, whereas a broad halo or a relatively sharp peak was also detected in the wide angle region for all the polymers. The experimental values of the thickness of the smectic layer which can be easily assigned by the polarizing microscopic measurements were smaller than that of the calculated ones. This difference would be caused from the tilted arrangement in the smectic layer or smectic A like structure in which the side chain would be overlapped.

, p. 113 - 128 (2007/10/02)
The synthesis of a series of liquid crystalline side-chain polyacrylates in which the mesogenic group is 1-(4-benzoyloxyphenyl)-2-(4'-cyanophenyl)ethane is reported.Methylenic spacer groups of different lengths have been used.Polymers were prepared by radical polymerization (AIBN as initiator) of the corresponding acrylates. The liquid crystalline nature of these polymers was established by calorimetric measurements, optical texture observations and X-ray investigations. For the polymer where n=6, the unusual I-N-SAd-Nre sequence was observed.
