The present invention relates to compounds of general formula (I) in which A, L, M, Q2, Q3, Q4, R1, R5, Ra, Rb, Rc, W, X, Y, Z1, Z2, Z3 are defined in the description, the salts thereof, particularly the physiologically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds are of potential utility in the treatment and/or prevention of inflammatory diseases and associated conditions, in particular, in the treatment and/or prevention of pain. The invention also relates to the use of such compounds as medicaments, to pharmaceutical compositions containing them, and to their preparation.

O-Alkylhydroxylamines, particularly O-methylhydroxylamine, aminate nitroarenes in the presence of a strong base and a copper catalyst to give aminonitroarenes in good yields, ortho- or para-Animation with respect to the nitro group takes place, and in some cases the ortho-aminated product is preferentially obtained. With 3-substituted nitrobenzenes where the substituent has a lone pair of electrons, preferential amination occurs at the 2-position to give the sterically most congested 3c-f, 14 and 22g.

The azimido benzamide of this invention and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts have an unusually and unexpectedly high therapeutic index and low toxicity in the treatment of emesis in mammals. Pharmacological testing demonstrated the superior efficacy of the compound of this invention over known, similar compounds.
