Biosynthesis of β-(isoxazolin-5-on-2-yl)alanine, the precursor of the neurotoxic amino acid β-N-oxalyl-L-α,β-diaminopropionic acid
Ikegami,Itagaki,Ishikawa,Ongena,Kuo,Lambein,Murakoshi
, p. 3376 - 3377 (1991)
β-(Isoxazolin-5-on-2-yl)alanine (BIA), a biosynthetic precursor of the neurotoxic amino acid β-N-oxalyl-L-α,β-diaminopropionic acid (ODAP), was confirmed to be derived from O-acetyl-L-serine (OAS) and isoxazolin-5-one by cysteine synthase in higher plants. Some properties of this enzyme in the biosynthesis of BIA are described.

, p. 1214 - 1215 (2007/10/03)
Two isoxazolylalanine isomers, β-(isoxazolin-5-on-2-yl)-L-alanine (BIA, 1) and β-(isoxazolin-5-on-4-yl)-L-alanine (TAN-950 A, 2) were confirmed to be derived from O-acetyl-L-serine (OAS) and isoxazolin-5-one by cysteine synthases (CSases) with a different ratio in different plant parts. Some properties of this enzyme in the biosynthesis of both isomers are described.

Herein we report a high-yielding synthesis of isoxazolidin-5-ones and their use to synthesise both β-amino-alanines and β-(N-hydroxyamino)-alanines.
Biomimetic Synyhesis of Heterocyclic β-Substituted Alanines by Pyridoxal 5'-Phosphate-Catalyzed Chemical Reactions
Murakoshi, Isamu,Ikegami, Fumio,Yoneda, Yoshihiro,Ihara, Harumi,Sakata, Kumiko,Koide, Chiharu
, p. 1473 - 1478 (2007/10/02)
Several heterocyclic β-substituted alanines were biomimetically synthesized by incubating 0.1M acetate buffer solution containing the appropriate heterocyclic compound and O-acetylserine or serine in the presence of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) and metal ions. This PLP-catalyzed chemical reaction depends upon pH, metal ions and temperature. The addition of Ga3+, Fe3+ or Al3+ enhanced the rate of synthesis. The optimum of the various reaction conditions of this biomimetic method is described. Keywords - biomymetic synthesis; amino acid synthesis; heterocyclic β-substituted alanine; non-protein amino acid; O-acetylserine; N-heterocyclic compound; pyridoxal 5'-phosphate; metal ion
SYNTHESIS OF L-β-(ISOXAZOLIN-5-ONE-2-YL)-ALANINE: A NOVEL METHOD FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF N-SUBSTITUTED 3,4-UNSUBSTITUTED ISOXAZOLIN-5-ONES
Baldwin, Jack E.,Adlington, Robert M.,Birch, David J.
, p. 5931 - 5934 (2007/10/02)
A mild new general method for the synthesis of the isoxazolin-5-one-2-yl ring system (4) via a favoured 5-endo-dig cyclisation is described; this methodology has been successfully applied for the first chemical enantio-efficient synthesis of L-β-(isoxazol
