A Second Synthesis of 6>(1,2,3,4,5,6)Cyclophane (Superphane)

Starting with 4,5,12,13-tetramethylparacyclophane (1) a novel synthesis of 6>(1,2,3,4,5,6)cyclophane (6) has been achieved.Decisive prerequisite for the success of the six-step reaction sequence is the observation, that 1 may be formylated in the first reaction step to the dialdehydes 4 and 5.
