A one-pot multicomponent synthesis of a benzo[b]phosphole derivative has been achieved by a sequence of transition-metal-catalyzed arylmagnesiation of an internal alkyne, electrophilic trapping of the resulting alkenylmagnesium species with a dichloroorganophosphine, and an intramolecular phospha-Friedel-Crafts reaction.
