Leucothionine, also known as 2-amino-3-mercaptopropanoic acid, is a sulfur-containing amino acid that is a precursor to the formation of coenzyme A (CoA), a vital molecule involved in various cellular processes such as energy production and metabolism. It is synthesized from cysteine and is an essential component in the biosynthesis of certain antibiotics, as well as in the detoxification of certain drugs and toxins in the body. Leucothionine plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and is involved in the regulation of various metabolic pathways.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 6138-09-6 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 6,1,3 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 6138-09:
(6*6)+(5*1)+(4*3)+(3*8)+(2*0)+(1*9)=86
86 % 10 = 6
So 6138-09-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Kinetic study on the reversible hydride transfer between methylene blue and thionine

Liu,Yamamoto,Fujiyama,Sueishi

, p. 2367 - 2371 (2000)

The kinetics of the hydride transfer reaction between leuco methylene blue and thionine was investigated spectrophotometrically by means of the stopped-flow technique. Leuco methylene blue and leuco thionine were produced by photoreduction of methylene bl

PHOTOREDUCTION OF THIONINE AND SURFACTANT THIONINE BY IRON(II) IN ANIONIC MICELLES AND MICROEMULSIONS.

Mackay,Graetzel

, p. 526 - 530 (1985)

The rate constants for the iron(II)-thionine and surfactant thionine system have been determined in aqueous solution, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles, and in a mineral oil-in-water microemulsion stabilized by sodium cetyl sulfate (SCS) and 1-pentanol. The triplet lifetimes are all in the range 7-9 mu s. The rate constant for electron transfer quenching of triplet thionine by iron(II) is higher in the anionic media due to a higher local Fe**2** plus concentration. However, the back reaction between semithionine and iron(III) is not similarly enhanced in the presence of micelles or microemulsion. The dismutation of semithionine is a little slower in microemulsion than in water, but over two orders of magnitude slower in SDS micelles. The quantum yield of thionine triplet formation, determined for surfactant thionine in SCS microemulsion, approaches unity.
