DPC acts as a coupling agent, converting carboxylic acids into reactive O-acylisourea intermediates, which then react with amines to form amides and release diisopropylurea as a byproduct. This reaction is particularly useful in the formation of peptide bonds in the synthesis of proteins and other biomolecules.
