The preparation and conversion of a cyclo-pentadiene ligand was discussed. The high electron withdrawing ability of the carboranyl thiol moiety was introduced onto a Cp ligand for the synthesis process. The sulfur atom was shown to influence the binding capability of the ligands, more than the phosphorous and nitrogen atoms. The results show that the incorporation of the thiol unit in ansa ligand helps in enhancing the reactivity of the metallocene towards Ziegler-Natta catalysis.
