Exposure of an unsaturated oxime, unsubstituted in the β-position (such as 13), to sodium nitrite-aqueous acetic acid gives an alkyne (9) through a complex series of reactions that could be mechanistically related to the conversion of an isopropylidene group into an alkyne reported a few years ago.
