Numerous substituted α-aminophosphinates were synthesized by addition of alkyl and phenyl H-phosphinates to aromatic imines and characterized. Modest diastereoselectivity was observed in the reaction. The size of the substituents exerts a small effect on the diastereoselectivity of P - C bond formation.
