General Description
1,4-anhydro-2-(6-chloro-9H-purin-9-yl)-2-deoxypentitol, also known as Cladribine, is a synthetic chlorinated nucleoside analog with antineoplastic and immunosuppressive properties. It is used in the treatment of certain types of cancer, particularly hairy cell leukemia. Cladribine is a prodrug that is phosphorylated intracellularly to its active triphosphate form, which then inhibits DNA synthesis and repair, leading to the death of rapidly dividing cells. It also has immunosuppressive effects by reducing the number of certain types of lymphocytes.
