The reaction of diphenylvinylphosphine rhodium(I) complex with chlorine is accompanied by oxidation of the central rhodium atom and halogen addition at the multiple bond of the phosphorus-containing ligand. The reaction with hydrogen chloride involves only the rhodium atom, the double bond remaining intact. The resulting compounds are characterized by (1)H and (31)P NMR and IR spectroscopy; the complex [Rh(CO)(Ph2PCH=CH2)2Cl3] has been studied by the x-ray diffraction method.
