Angelic acid or esters thereof which are useful as perfume materials are prepared by isomerizing tiglic acid or an ester thereof with an organic sulfinic acid as the catalyst, and novel esters of angelic acid represented by the formula STR1 wherein R represents 3-hexenyl, 3-methyl-2-butenyl, 3-methyl-3-butenyl, 3-methyl-2-pentenyl, 3-methyl-4-pentenyl, CH3 (CH2)l - (in which l is an integer from 5 to 9), cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, 2-methylpentyl, α-methylbenzyl, neryl or furfuryl are provided as part of said esters of angelic acid.
