Vanadium, triphenyl-, also known as triphenyl vanadium, is an organometallic compound with the chemical formula (C6H5)3V. It is a dark red-brown, air-sensitive solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. Triphenyl vanadium is synthesized by reacting vanadium(III) chloride with lithium phenyl or magnesium phenyl. Vanadium, triphenyl- is an important precursor in the synthesis of various vanadium-containing materials and catalysts, such as in the production of vanadium-based catalysts for olefin polymerization. Due to its sensitivity to air and moisture, it is typically handled under an inert atmosphere or in a glovebox. Triphenyl vanadium is also used in the preparation of other organometallic vanadium complexes and has potential applications in the field of homogeneous catalysis.
