Herbicidal pyrimidine and triazine derivatives of the formula: STR1 and salts thereof, where: X represents --CH= or --N=; Y is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or amino group; R1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or heterocyclyl group; R2 represents hydrogen, halogen or alkyl; and R4 and R5, which may be the same or different, each represent hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino or halogen.
