p-Bis(p-iodostyryl)benzene, p-bis(p-iodophenylstyryl)benzene, p-bis(4-iodo-2,5-dimethylstyryl)benzene, p-bis(4-bromo-2-methylstyryl)benzene, 2,7-bis(p-iodostyryl)fluorene, 2-(p-iodostyryl)fluorene, 4,4'-bis(p-iodostyryl)biphenyl, and 4-(p-iodophenyl)stilbene were synthesized by the reaction of phenyldibromoethane, p-iodophenyldibromoethane, or tetrabromodivinylbenzene with the respective aromatic hydrocarbons in the presence of titanium tetrachloride, followed by thermal dehydrobromination of the alkylation products.The absorption and fluorescence spectra were investigated, and the quantum yields of fluorescence and the lifetimes of the excited state were determined.
