Magnesium, iodo(4-methylphenyl)-, also known as 4-methylphenylmagnesium iodide, is an organomagnesium compound with the chemical formula C7H7IMg. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that is highly sensitive to air and moisture. Magnesium, iodo(4-methylphenyl)- is primarily used as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the formation of carbon-carbon bonds through the Grignard reaction. It is prepared by reacting 4-methylphenylmagnesium bromide with lithium iodide or by direct reaction of 4-methylbromobenzene with magnesium metal in an ether solvent. Due to its high reactivity, it must be handled under an inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen or argon, and stored away from light and heat.

A novel organocatalytic C(sp3)-H bond functionalization of isochroman under practical conditions has been developed. In the presence of 5.0 mol % of AZADOL, the catalysis proceeded successfully with a broad range of substrates and nucleophiles in excellent yields.
