The syntheses of 4-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-3,7,7-trimethylbicyclohept-3-ene and related compounds have been accomplished by sodium borohydride reduction of 4-acyl-3,7,7-trimethylbicyclohept-3-ene and related compounds, obtained by Friedel-Crafts reaction on (+)-Car-3-ene.The position isomers have been isolated and structures established by spectral studies.
