A new approach to 3-acetoxy-2-methyl-2-vinylcyclohexanone and 3-acetoxy-2-methyl-2-vinylcyclopentanone in stereochemically pure state, by means of a combination of yeast-catalyzed reduction and subsequent radical β-fragmentation is described.
