Aluminum, tris(3,3-dimethylbutyl)-, also known as Al(C12H25)3 or trimethylbutyl aluminum, is an organoaluminum compound with the chemical formula C36H75Al. It is a colorless, viscous liquid that is soluble in nonpolar solvents and has a molecular weight of 567.07 g/mol. Aluminum, tris(3,3-dimethylbutyl)- is primarily used as a cocatalyst in the production of polyolefins, particularly in the Ziegler-Natta catalyst system for the polymerization of ethylene and propylene. It is also employed as a scavenger for trace water and oxygen in various chemical processes. Due to its highly reactive nature with air and water, it must be handled with extreme caution and stored under an inert atmosphere.
