The reaction of phosphorus trichloride with olefins under conditions of electrochemical initiation follows the radical ion chain mechanism. This reaction is accompanied by formation of phosphoryl chloride, which also proceeds by a chain mechanism. The electrochemical initiation is shown to be superior to conventional synthetic procedures.
