A new synthesis of the insect neuropeptide proctolin is described.Proctolin has been shown to restore phagocytosis in defective PMN leukocytes from human patiens with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) to the normal level.This effect is compared with similar results observed earlier for tuftsin, the natural phagocytosis stimulating agent.
