The synthesis of three optically active smectogens in the homologous series 4-(2'-methylbutyloxy) 4-alkyloxybenzoate is reported.The alkoxy moiety being octyloxy, nonyloxy and decyloxy.Some of the physical properties of these compounds have been measured.
