1,2-Azulenequinones (1,2-azulenediones) (1a-c) were synthesized by dehydrogenation of the corresponding 1,2-dihydroxyazulenes (5a-c) which were prepared from 2-acetoxyazulenes (2b,c) by benzoyloxylation followed by hydrolysis.Some chemical and physical properties of 1a-c are also described.
