The preparation and characterization of a hexagonal structural modification of [Rh(dicbp)2+Cl-]n (dicbp = 4,4′-diisocyanobiphenyl) is described: This stacked layer polymer contains an extensive network of columnar metal chains with intrachain Rh-Rh distances of 3.54 ?. The hexagonal polymer undergoes pressure-induced isomerization to the tetragonal structural modification. The preparation and characterization of a series of iridium polymers of the type [Ir(dic)2+Cl-]n (dic = diisocyanide) are also described. The new iridium polymer consists of two-dimensional layered structures.
