A number of 3,9-substituted 6-oxo-1,3,4,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyrido[1,2-a][1,3,5]triazine-7-carbonitriles were synthesized by reaction of 5-R-6-amino-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitriles with primary amines and excess formaldehyde.

A simple, quick, and high-yielding microwave-assisted synthesis of 2-(N,Ndimethyl) amine- and 2-aminopyridine derivatives is reported here for the first time in the reaction of 2-chloro substituted pyridines with amide solvents such as dimethylformamide or formamide, without transition-metal catalysts. A novel method for the synthesis of pyridones has been developed.It consists of the reaction of β-dicarbonyl compounds or conjugated enol ethers with cyanoacetamide in the presence of triethylbenzylammonium chloride in aq.NaOH solution.The present method is superior to the literature methods with respect to yield, ease of preparation and absence of organic solvent.
