In reaction with selenium dianion, generated from elemental selenium (Se8), in the dimethyl sulfoxide - potassium hydroxide - water system at 100 - 200 deg C vinylacetylene gives selenophene, di(1,3-butadienyl) selenide, and 1-vinyl-2-selenabicyclohept-3-ene.The reaction mixture also contained methyl 1,3-butadienyl sulfide and methylthiomethyl 1,3-butadienyl selenide, which are the products from reaction of vinylacetylene, dimethyl sulfoxide, and selenium in the presence of the base.
