PORPHYRINS. 13. REACTION OF meso-DIMETHYLAMINOMETHYLETIOPORPHYRIN I WITH NUCLEOPHILES IN THE PRESENCE OF ZINC ACETATE

When meso-dimethylaminomethyletioporphyrin I (I) is heated in CCl4 or tetrahydrofuran (THF) in the presence of zinc acetate, it reacts with alcohols to give the corresponding meso-alkoxymethylporphyrins.Under similar conditions CH acids (acetone, acetylacetone, nitromethane, and others) form the corresponding meso-substituted derivatives with the formation of a C-C bond.Ethers are formed when the copper and nickel complexes of I are heated in ethylene glycol.
