7790-30-9 Usage
Uses
Used in Infrared Radiation Transmission:
Thallium (I) iodide is used as an infrared radiation transmitter in mixed crystals with thallium bromide. This application takes advantage of its ability to efficiently transmit infrared radiation, making it suitable for various industrial and technological purposes.
Used in Lighting Industry:
In the lighting industry, thallium (I) iodide is used in mercury lamps to enhance their performance. The blue-green light produced by these lamps has the least absorption in water, making them ideal for underwater lighting applications.
Used in Radiation Scintillation Detectors:
Thallium (I) iodide is also utilized in the creation of scintillators, which are made using the iodide salts of thallium, sodium, and cesium. These scintillators are employed in radiation scintillation detectors, playing a crucial role in the detection and measurement of ionizing radiation.
Safety Profile
Poison by ingestion and subcutaneous routes. Human systemic effects: blood pressure lowering, change in motor activity, muscle weakness. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of T1 and I-. See also IODIDES and THALLIUM COMPOUNDS.
Purification Methods
Reflux it for 2-3hours with water containing HI, then wash it until acid-free, and dry it at 120o. Store it in brown bottles. [D.nges in Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry (Ed. Brauer) Academic Press Vol I p 870 1963]. POISONOUS.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 7790-30-9 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 7,7,9 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 7790-30:
(6*7)+(5*7)+(4*9)+(3*0)+(2*3)+(1*0)=119
119 % 10 = 9
So 7790-30-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
