AMINATION OF CHLOROMETHYLATED POLYSTYRENE WITH AMINO ALCOHOLS.
Kawabe
, p. 2886 - 2892 (1981)
The amination of chloromethylated polystyrene (CMPS) and benzyl chloride (BC) with amino alcohols was investigated kinetically in dioxane, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The amination rate was related mainly to the branching structure and partly to the pK of amino alcohols. The difference in the amination rate between CMPS and BC is discussed in terms of the activation parameters. The amination rate of the polymer partly containing quaternary ammonium groups (QCMPS) in DMSO was found to be greater than that of CMPS probably owing to the ion-dipole interaction.
